Hussonet’s star keeps rising
Although Hussonet now stands at South Australia’s Cornerstone Stud, Arrowfield remains immensely proud of him, and is delighted to be selling several of his yearlings in 2012, among them a pair of colts in Tuesday’s session of the Sydney Classic Sale.

The champion sire is enjoying a high-profile season in Australia with 60 winners of 80 races already on the board. They include last weekend’s stakeswinner At The Heads, and debut 2YO winners Tatra in Sydney and Arrowfield graduate Members Joy in Melbourne.
Husson, Husson Lightning and Host are busy building Hussonet’s record as a sire of sires, and have already recorded six winners including the stakeswinner Hussousa (by Husson from a Redoute’s Choice mare).
Hussonet himself is having a particular impact on the 3YO Sires’ list where he is in 11th position, thanks to the likes of Happy Hussy, Colorado Claire, Angel of Mercy, Roses in the Glen and today’s eye-catching Adelaide winner Rifleman.
Rifleman (from the 2YO stakeswinner Opportunity by Redoute’s Choice ) blazed over 1000 metres at Morphettville in near course-record time of 56.99 seconds and looks a strong prospect for black type success this season. Bred by the partnership which raced Miss Finland, the colt is co-owned by Arrowfield and trained by David Hayes.
In Hong Kong, Hussonet’s 4YO son Glorious Days (ex San Century by Centaine) is unbeaten in four starts and appears next in the Chinese New Year Cup Handicap over 1400m at Sha Tin on 25 January.
However, Glorious Days’ year-younger brother Bangalore Bullet beat him to black-type status when he took out yesterday’s Gore Guineas LR in New Zealand, and became Hussonet’s 78th stakeswinner.
Bangalore Bullet was bred by Mark Treweek and purchased for $50,000 from the Lyndhurst Farm draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. He is raced by Nearco Stud Ltd, Louis Vieceli and Shane Kennedy, who also trains the chestnut colt.
San Century, who died two years ago, was an unraced relative of Group 1 winners Black Mamba, Roman Emperor and Tully Thunder – and of Hussonet’s Group 2-winning son Rios. San Century’s first foal was the Group 1-placed stakeswinner Spurcent (by Flying Spur ).
Arrowfield is offering two colts by Hussonet at the 2012 Inglis Classic Sale which starts today in Sydney.
Lot 463 is out of Jemison (by Commands), from the family of champion Australasian 2YO Align and Group 2 winner Fritz’s Princess. Lot 560, from Monte Rosa (by Fraar) is a brother to stakes-placed 2YO winner Red Dress Marley, and a half-brother to Snitzerland, stakes-placed on debut at Flemington in November.
