Hong Kong stakes win for Redoute’s Choice son

Hong Kong stakes win for Redoute’s Choice son

Packing Ok, the son of Redoute’s Choice and Abbadena, claimed his second stakes victory in Hong Kong last night with a powerful finishing burst in the HKJC National Day Cup 1400m HK-3.

Bred by Redoute’s Choice’s owner-breeder, Muzaffar Yaseen, Packing Ok had compiled an admirable record over the past couple of seasons in Hong Kong, winning four races, including the Centenary Vase HK-3 over 1800 metres in February this year. However, he surprised his trainer John Moore as well as punters on MOnday evening with a decisive 1.5 length victory in the very fast time of 1.20.71.

However, Moore is convinced Packing Ok is better suited to a mile and will now consult owner Raymond Lee Man Chun about a start in the Sha Tin Trophy HK-2 on 28 October.

Packing Ok was a $480,000 purchase by Magus Equine from the Widden Stud draft at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. He is the 4th stakeswinner this season for his champion sire, after Group 3-winning 3YOs Albrecht (Australia) and Pure Elegance (New Zealand), and Listed Race winner Dystopia (Australia).

Packing Ok headed a group of five colts & geldings by Redoute’s Choice who added black type to their records over the long weekend. They were 3YOs Albrecht (2nd, ATC Stan Fox S. G2), Indianapolis & Laser Flash (2nd & 3rd, ATC Dulcify Quality LR), and 4YO Strawberry Boy (3rd, Colin Stephen Quality G3). Albrecht is already a Group 3 winner (and a Group 1 runner-up), while the latter three all look capable of achieving similar status.

The same applies to Gerry Harvey‘s home-bred 4YO mare Chateau Margaux (Redoute’s Choice-Kylikwong by Red Ransom) who posted her 4th win from nine starts at Caulfield on Sunday, a fortnight after finishing 3rd in the MVRC W.H. Stocks S. G2.

Her trainer Peter Moody produced another promising daughter of Redoute’s Choice, A Time for Julia, at the same meeting for her owner-breeders John & Deb Camilleri, and she was beaten only by Balaclava Lady (by Charge Forward ).

Monday’s Randwick placegetters Tropicana Girl and Wind Bender, both trained by Chris Waller, completed a fruitful long weekend for Redoute’s Choice who, with the 2012/13 season barely two months old, Redoute’s Choice already has 42 winners and nine stakes performers in Australia, New Zealand & Hong Kong.
