Hong Kong Derby win spotlights Olympic Glory

Sunday evening’s resounding Hong Kong Derby HK-1 victory by Australian-bred Luger was perfectly timed to support the announcement that Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al Thani’s multiple European Group 1 winner Olympic Glory will shuttle to Arrowfield this coming Spring.

Like Olympic Glory, Luger is a son of Choisir, highly successful in both hemispheres with 64 stakeswinners, including 7 at full Group 1 level, five of them in Australasia.

Olympic Glory is the highest-rated runner by Choisir on Racing Post Ratings, and was awarded a final Timeform figure of 130, which confirmed his ranking among the world’s very best performers in 2014.

Olympic Glory was retired to stand in the northern hemisphere at Haras de Bouquetot in France, where he stands at a fee of €15,000 and has just had his first ten mares scanned in foal.

An interesting feature of Luger’s pedigree is that he is in-bred 3 x 3 to Danehill through Choisir and his damsire, former Arrowfield resident Danzero. This pattern also appears in the pedigree of current smart 2YO Prompt Return, winner of the VRC Maribyrnong Plate G3 last Spring. Prompt Return is by Danehill’s grandson Beneteau from a mare by Exceed and Excel.

Olympic Glory will stand at Arrowfield this year at a fee of $19,250 inc. GST and will parade for the first time in Australia at the Stud’s Stallion Open House in August.
