Hoegaarden makes it 77 for Flying Spur

In the game of Bingo, the number 77 has the call “Sunset Strip”, but the sun is still high in the sky for champion sire

Flying Spur , as his 77th stakeswinner confirmed in Perth on Saturday.

He’s the highly progressive 3YO gelding Hoegaarden (ex Inspect by Integra), who broke his maiden at only his third start in the $80,000 WATC Fairetha S. 1400m LR at Ascot, and will now go to the $250,000 WA Guineas 1600m G2 at the same course on 13 November.

As reported by Magic Millions’ Greg Irvine, trainer Joe Byrne says he’s always had a good opinion of Hoegaarden and believes he will improve as his distances are increased.

“He’s got a beautiful stride on him and he’s such a relaxed horse I’m really looking forward to getting him over some ground.”

Byrne trains for Singapore-based owner Ong Tiong Seng who bought the Milburn Creek-bred Hoegaarden for $100,000 from the Baerami Thoroughbreds draft at the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Hoegaarden’s dam, the stakes-placed winner Inspect, is a full sister to the crack galloper Intergaze, winner of 12 races, including eight at Group 1 level.

Hoegaarden is Flying Spur’s second new stakeswinner in the past six weeks, following Vintedge, winner of the Newcastle JC Tibbie S. LR on 16 September.
