Group 1 start next for Mamma
It’s been a great month at home for enthusiastic Adelaide owner Peter Katelanis who cheered Into The Mist (by Redoute’s Choice) to her fourth victory at Morphettville on 16 April.
A week later at the same course, Peter’s 3YO filly Don’t Doubt Mamma (by Not A Single Doubt) rocketed past her rivals in the straight to snatch her third stakes win this season, in the $100,000 SAJC Redelva S. 1100m LR.
Watch Don’t Doubt Mamma’s Redelva S. LR win.
Like Into The Mist, Don’t Doubt Mamma is trained by Tony McEvoy who said of her, “She is a bit of class, and loves to win. She was coming back from an excellent second over 1400m at Flemington, and to be honest, I would have been happy to see her finish off the race and sneak into the placings.
“But she is just so good. Jason (Holder) had her in a striking position coming to the home turn and she just wound up to haul in the leaders and win going away.”
Don’t Doubt Mamma has now won five races and almost $400,000, and has made the first four in eleven of her 12 starts – the kind of record every owner hopes to experience at least once!
The filly’s next target is the $400,000 Robert Sangster S. G1 over 1200 metres at Morphettville on 7 May. The race was won last year by another classy daughter of Not A Single Doubt, Miracles Of Life.
Don’t Doubt Mamma (ex Coconut Mamma, by Fantastic Light from the celebrated Denise’s Joy family) was purchased privately as a yearling from Tyreel Stud by Blue Sky Bloodstock for Peter Katelanis, Peter Hunt, Andrew Lathlean & Darren Thomas. The same group also raced her year-older stakes-winning brother Risen From Doubt.
Peter is confident the best hasn’t yet been seen of their already valuable filly. He says, “I’m sure Don’t Doubt Mamma will keep improving and be at her best as a four-year-old.”
Unfortunately, Coconut Mamma was retired from breeding after delivering Don’t Doubt Mamma, her fourth foal. Coconut Mamma’s only other Australian-based daughter, Miss St Tropez (by Magnus) was purchased in 2011 by Blue Sky for Arrowfield, which also owned Denise’s Joy for the latter part of her breeding life. Miss St Tropez has a weanling filly by All American and is in foal to Animal Kingdom.
Don’t Doubt Mamma is one the 10 winners of 16 stakes races that have helped Not A Single Doubt to crack the $10 million mark in Australia this season, a figure exceeded only by the deceased Street Cry.
The son of Redoute’s Choice occupies the same position on the 2YO Sires’ table and heads the 3YO Sires’ list. That’s not too surprising because his 2012 and 2013 crops have supplied all but two of his ten current season stakeswinners, including Group 1 winners Extreme Choice (MRC Blue Diamond S. G1) & Single Gaze (ATC Vinery Stud S. G1).
These two crops are the first of Not A Single Doubt’s progeny conceived on a fee above the $13,750 payable for his first six seasons at stud. That augurs very well indeed for what the mares sent to him in subsequent seasons, when his fee rose to $33,000 (2013-15) and now to $71,500, are likely to leave.
