Grand campaigner Pinnacles retired

Welcome news after the weekend was that the grand Arrowfield-bred and -sold campaigner Pinnacles (Fuji Kiseki-Galroof by Maroof), pulled up in Saturday’s VRC Emirates S. G1 with what appeared to be very serious injuries, can now look forward to a happy retirement.

His trainer Rick Hore-Lacy reports on his website, “He has torn the ligaments away from his sesamoids and chipped a piece of bone off one of them, but his injuries are not life threatening and he should live to a ripe, old age.”

The 8YO gelding won 11 of his 61 starts, most recently the Sale Cup, and just over $1 million – an excellent return on his $100,000 price at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale back in 2005.

His performances included a Listed Race win at four, and two Group 1 placings, as a 4YO in Triple Honour’s Doncaster Handicap, and again this spring, behind stablemate Toorak Toff in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield. Pinnacles is a half-brother to two other successful Arrowfield graduates: Sabrage (by Charge Forward ), a G3 winner and 3rd in the Victoria Derby G1 this spring; and stakes-placed winner Husonic (by Hussonet). Their dam Galroof, a half-sister to stakeswinners Manzeal and Lord Mick, won at Group 3 level and was runner-up in the Queensland Derby G1 and Doomben Cup G1.

Paul Moroney, who purchased Sabrage from the Arrowfield draft at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, returned to buy Galroof’s Hussonet daughter from the Bellerive consignment at this year’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale. Galroof has a yearling full brother to Sabrage, produced a colt to All American in September and returns to Charge Forward.
