First Japanese SW for Redoute’s Choice

3YO filly Clianthus became the first stakeswinner in Japan for Redoute’s Choice when she claimed the Marguerite S. 1400m LR at Hanshin this afternoon.

The Shadai home-bred, conceived in Australia and foaled in Japan by champion Japanese sprinter Flower Park (by Nihon Pillow Winner), won by 1.75 lengths in 1.20.80 and took her career prizemoney beyond $A400,000. It was the filly’s third win from seven starts, and she is the 72nd individual stakeswinner for Arrowfield’s champion sire.

But that wasn’t the only success for Redoute’s Choice in Japan today. Australian-bred entire Botanical Art (ex Cloudy Skies by Sadler’s Wells) won the Kurume Tokubetsu 1700m on dirt at Kokura for owner Katsumi Yoshida. Bred by the partnership of Arrowfield & Gainsborough Stud Australia (which also bred champion filly Miss Finland), Botanical Art was a $300,000 purchase from the 2007 Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Redoute’s Choice currently leads the 2010/11 Australian General Sires’ list by stakeswinners with 11, but Clianthus and New Zealand Group 1 winner King’s Rose take his worldwide season tally to thirteen. Clianthus is now a likely starter in the Tokyo NHK Mile 1600m G1 on 8 May.

Today’s win came a week after Kinshasa No Kiseki, bred at Arrowfield by the Arrowleave Joint Venture, and raced by Kazumi Yoshida, became the first horse to win the Takamatsunomiya Kinen G1 in consecutive years. The son of Fuji Kiseki has since been retired to stud at the Shadai Stallion Station in Hokkaido.

Further Asian success came for Redoute’s Choice today when 3YO colt California Choice and 5YO gelding Grandfield both scored at short odds in Hong Kong. They followed yesterday’s efforts in Sydney by 3YO colt I Think I Do (2nd, ATC Tulloch S. G2) and outstanding 4YO mare Melito (2nd, ATC Queen of the Turf S. G1).

Redoute’s Choice has a mouth-watering draft of 43 yearlings in the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Sale, which begins on Tuesday. They include half or full siblings to Makybe Diva, Private Steer, Samantha Miss, Polar Success, Savabeel, Rothesay, Beneteau, Amelia’s Dream and Sky Cuddle; and yearlings from Group 1 winners Champagne, Clean Sweep, Dowry, Rockabubble, Special Harmony and Unearthly. Arrowfield will present 14 lots by Redoute’s Choice, among them a colt from the Aga Khan’s stakes-winning mare Vadsalina, a half-sister to G1 Vadawina & G3 Vadapolina.
