Fillies quinella for Redoute’s Choice & Hussonet
Arrowfield’s champion sires Redoute’s Choice and
Hussonet supplied a quinella at Rosehill today when their daughters led the field home in a competitive 1200-metre race for 3YO fillies.
Pontiana (Redoute’s Choice-Liberty Rose by Royal Academy), a lovely filly who may well prove suited by more distance, led and kicked strongly enough to hold off the fast-finishing Daughter O’Fortune (Hussonet-Vocabulary by Encosta de Lago). Both fillies were stepping up to Sydney Saturday company after showing form elsewhere, Daughter O’Fortune, placed in Adelaide, and Pontiana, a winner at Kembla Grange on 21 August.
Pontiana was bred by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds and sold for $215,000 at the 2009 Australian Easter Yearling Sale; while Bridget Woodford-Smith’s Huntworth Stud bred Daughter O’Fortune. Both fillies were sold at the 2009 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Pontiana for $215,000, and Daughter O’Fortune for $200,000.
Redoute’s Choice has now had six 3YO winners in the past nine days: Best Choice, Light Brigade, Maraaseem, Margiela, Mukarrar & Pontiana, and all of them look capable of more this spring.
Hussonet’s four 3YO winners this season to date include another talented filly Slow the Flow, who won at Randwick in August, and has since run a good fourth in More Strawberries’ NSW Tatt’s Furious S. G2.
Redoute’s Choice was represented by 57 3YO winners in Australia last season (more than any other stallion), five of them stakeswinners, including G1 winners MELITO & DARIANA.
Hussonet had 36 Australian 3YO winners in 2009/10, including stakeswinners LATIN NEWS, and GIRL HUSSLER, who resumed this season with an excellent second to More Joyous in the STC Sheraco S. LR two weeks ago, and followed up with a dead-heat second in today’s STC Research S. G3. As it happened, she dead-heated with Montana Flyer by another champion sire at Arrowfield, Flying Spur .
