Feel The Glory
Arrowfield’s 26 stakes-winning graduates from Magic Millions 2019-24 are headed by 5 Group 1 winners purchased for prices ranging from $100,000 to a sale-topping $1.9 million.
Four of them are high-profile colts now making their mark as stallions: triple Classic winner and Arrowfield’s first-crop sire Hitotsu (Maurice-Love Is Fickle), Yulong’s Blue Diamond G1 winner Tagaloa (sire of two Group-winning 3YOs from his first crop), Windsor Park Stud’s Profondo (Spring Champion S. G1) and Coolmore’s Private Life (Caulfield Guineas G1).
Number 5 is this season’s heroic sprinter, the gelding Baraqiel (Snitzel-Angel Of Mercy), winner of the Moir S. G1 and second in the Manikato S. G1 at The Valley.
A $150,000 purchase for Bennett Racing from Arrowfield’s 2020 Magic Millions draft, Baraqiel has overcome multiple setbacks to win eight of his 13 starts from the Corstens & Larkin stable, for prizemoney of almost $1.5 million.
As Will Larkin said after the Moir Stakes, “His turn of foot is just so brilliant. He’s such a good horse and what he can do when he’s got clear air, is unbelievable.”
A longer review of Magic Millions history reveals that no other Gold Coast vendor has sold more than Arrowfield’s 12 Group 1-winning graduates since 1998.
Arrowfield’s Group 1 Magic Millions graduates since 1998 also include:
Invader – who led home a Snitzel trifecta in the Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes and subsequently sired three-time Group 1 winner Sunshine In Paris
Secret Agenda – winner of the Robert Sangster S. G1, 3 other Group races & $1.5 million, and the dam of Group 2 winner Hidden Motive.
Plus a trio of top-flight fillies, all trained by Gai Waterhouse and all successful broodmares:
Sweet Idea – whose three seasons racing in top company produced 5 Group victories capped by The Galaxy G1. She is now the dam of million-dollar earner Clear Thinking.
Fashions Afield – Champion 2YO, dual Group 1 winner and dam of Group 2 winner Kiss And Make Up
Sunday Joy – Australian Oaks G1 winner and dam of 8-time Group 1 winner More Joyous.
And from the 1999 and 2000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sales, a pair of brilliant juveniles whose breeding careers ended prematurely:
Belle Du Jour – Champion 2YO Filly whose 6 Group wins featured the Golden Slipper G1 & Newmarket H. G1
San Luis – Champion New Zealand 2YO Colt, sire of dual Group winner Wealth Princess and damsire of Vin De Dance (New Zealand Derby G1).
