Farnan seals Golden Slipper favouritism
Not A Single Doubt’s outstanding 2YO son Farnan swept to Golden Slipper favouritism with a brilliant victory in Saturday’s $300,000 Todman S. 1200m G2.
Franking his performance was the effort of Arrowfield graduate and last-start Blue Diamond G1 winner Tagaloa (Lord Kanaloa-Vasilissa) who made ground late to finish second, 1.8 lengths behind Farnan.
It’s the second Todman Stakes winner on Not A Single Doubt’s record after Gunnison’s defeat of Invader in 2017, and the third stakes win from five starts for Farnan after the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic RL and Silver Slipper G2 in 5 starts.
Wow! How’s that Farnan?!

Gai Waterhouse already has six Golden Slipper trophies and co-trainer Adrian Bott believes that Farnan can make it seven.
“He is certainly the right colt to take us there and exciting for everyone involved. He’s showed his true professionalism today and his great asset, he’s got that great barrier speed, that great tactical speed and certainly sustained a strong tempo throughout.”
The race time of 1:09.86 on the Soft7 track was 0.70 seconds faster than Dame Giselle’s Reisling S. G2.
The decision to give Farnan a short break after his only unplaced run in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic has accelerated his progress, as Adrian explained. “He’s gone to a new level since that little freshen up and he has come back more mature and strengthened up physically.”
Farnan is the sixth foal of Group 3 winner Tallow (by Street Cry), also the dam of dual stakeswinner Sandbar (by Snitzel), and now in foal to The Autumn Sun.
Offered at the 2019 Magic Millions Sale by Vinery Stud, Farnan was bought for $550,000 by Aquis Farm & his breeder Phoenix Thoroughbred.
He is one of 25 Not A Single Doubt juveniles that have collectively won 33 Group & Listed Races, a total that began with Karuta Queen’s 2011 Magic Millions Classic and includes two Blue Diamonds, but not yet a Golden Slipper. Doubtfilly has done best of his nine runners to date, finishing fourth in the outstanding 2012 edition of the race, behind Pierro, Snitzerland & Samaready.
In the meantime, Not A Single Doubt is once again right in the mix of the 2YO Sires’ Premiership, holding third spot behind Snitzel & I Am Invincible with $1.5 million.
And he has 25 yearlings catalogued for the 2020 Inglis Easter Sale, including four colts and two fillies in the Arrowfield draft.
