El Divino extends dynasty’s sensational run

On a magical day at Randwick for owner-breeders John & Deborah Camilleri, Snitzel colt El Divino was a worthy support act for his older half-sister Winx, whose spectacular Doncaster Mile G1 win sealed her champion status.

El Divino met the Godolphin colt Astern in the $200,000 ATC Kindergarten S. 1100m G3 and, the pair opened The Championships with a thrilling, straight-long battle that neither would concede. The judge could not separate them and a dead-heat was declared, with the early leader Geneteau (by Beneteau) holding third, 3.5 lengths away.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained El Divino is the fifth new stakeswinner for Snitzel since New Year’s Day, his 17th juvenile black type winner, his 37th lifetime stakeswinner and his second Kindergarten Stakes winner after Dances On Stars in 2012.

El Divino’s success also takes the sequence of Group & Listed wins by Redoute’s Choice and his sons Not A Single Doubt & Snitzel to a remarkable 18 in ten weeks. The trio have posted at least one black type victory every weekend since 24 January, when Sun Jewellery (by Snitzel) won the Hong Kong Classic Mile HK-1.

The whole sequence, which includes Australian Group 1 winners Extreme Choice, Peeping & Single Gaze, looks like this:
