Dundeel filly wins James Carr S. G3

Woppitt Bloodstock’s home-bred filly Konasana sailed through Randwick’s testing conditions on the final day of the Sydney Autumn Carnival to land the $250,000 ATC James H.B. Carr S. 1400m G3, with 3.6 lengths back to the favourite Scarlet Oak.

She joins Hope In Your Heart, Aquacade, Victoria Quay, She’s Ideel & Purrfect Deal on Dundeel’s list of stakes-winning daughters and is his 6th black type winner this season.

After winning on debut at Randwick last June, Konasana compiled solid form as a Spring 3YO, including a win at The Valley & a second at Flemington before a 4th placing in Autumn Angel’s Ethereal S. G3. Trainer Chris Waller acknowledged her preference for shorter distances and planned her Autumn campaign accordingly. Konasana has now won 3 of her eight starts and $243,000 prizemoney.

The best of 3 winners left by the US-bred mare Posing (by Medicean from a Danehill mare), Konasana is as cleverly named – for the angle pose in yoga – as she is well-related. Her third dam is the remarkable 2012 Irish Broodmare of the Year Magnificent Style, dam of 7 stakeswinners including Champion 3YO Colt & Champion Sire Nathaniel and Group 1-winning fillies Great Heavens & Playful Act.

As well as being Dundeel’s 27th stakeswinner, Konasana is a new stakeswinner for her damsire Medicean on a list headed by Dundeel’s barnmate, triple Group 1 winner Admire Mars.
