A week after his daughter Femminile won the South Australian Derby G1, Dundeel has added his 7th female stakeswinner of the season, in the determined shape of 3YO filly Litzdeel, winner of the $170,000 SA Fillies Classic 2500m G3.

A very close last-start runner-up in the VRC St Leger LR, Litzdeel settled sweetly in second for regular rider Zac Spain, took charge at the 200-metre mark and forged on strongly to hold off the favourites Chase Your Dreams and Cavity Bay.

Ellie Morrison, assistant trainer for the Danny O’Brien stable, said, “She was impressive last start. She has been going really well this prep and we came here quietly confident that she would put in a good effort today.

“She’s a tough filly and towards the end she really, really does put the effort in…she’s got a big stride and a really big heart in her work, so we’re very happy with her.”

Litzdeel is a half-sister to the 2019 Melbourne Cup G1 winner and $7.7 million earner Vow And Declare, Listed winner Lycurgus and three other winners out of the excellent broodmare Geblitzt (by Testa Rossa), all of them bred by Paul Lanskey.

Like Vow And Declare, Litzdeel was passed in as a yearling and sent to Danny O’Brien with Mr Lanskey and his family among the owners of both horses.

Dundeel, about to be inducted to the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame, now has 37 stakeswinners on his stud record, 10 of them in Australia  this season including Group 1 winner Femminile and Group winners Konasana, Cinch, Mare Of Mt Buller & Jasmin Rouge.

Only 5 other stallions have left double-figure Australian stakeswinners so far in 2024/25: Snitzel (16), Zoustar, I Am Invincible & Written Tyccon (13 each) and Too Darn Hot (10).
