Discover the Arrowfield advantage at Classic

It’s been a smart move to buy from Arrowfield at the 2021-24 Inglis Classic Yearling Sales.

Just ask Bon Ho, Mark McStay, Leon & Troy Corstens, Tony Ottobre, Gary Portelli, Gai Waterhouse, Adrian Bott & Bruce Slade, Grahame Begg, Peter & June Dunn & Ciaron Maher.

Because Arrowfield’s ratio of Stakeswinners to Lots Offered at those four Inglis Classic Sales was three times better than the rest of the sale.

And in a sport where small differences have big consequences, every fair advantage a buyer can find is worth having.

Heading that list of Arrowfield Classic graduates is dual Group 1-winning miler Celestial Legend who put up two of the best Group 1 performances of 2024 to take out the Randwick Guineas G1 and a month later, the famous Doncaster Mile G1. Purchased for $220,000, he earned $3.3 million and has just served his first book of mares at Woodside Park Stud.

Celestial Legend is not the only stallion buyers have found among Arrowfield’s colts in the Big Barn at Inglis Classic.

Castelvecchio was a $150,000 purchase by Ottavio & Wendy Galletta in 2018 and less than a year later made a spectacular 2YO debut in Sydney before going on to win the inaugural $2 million Inglis Millennium RL and the Champagne S. G1, in the fastest time run by a juvenile over 1600 metres at Randwick.

He returned as a Spring 3YO to run second to Japan’s Horse of the Year Lys Gracieux in a stellar Cox Plate G1 and then won the Rosehill Guineas G1 in the Autumn before returning to Arrowfield, this time to the stallion barn.

Now a Group 1 sire of Aeliana (Australian Derby) & El Castello (Spring Champion Stakes), Castelvecchio has 11 lots on offer at Inglis Classic 2026 including four colts and a filly in Arrowfield’s consignment.

$160,000 buy Lady In Pink won five races including the Tristarc S. G2 at Caulfield and she has retired to stud with $662,000 in her account.

Gary Portelli’s $40,000 purchase of Verona Rose has put her owners in the winner’s circle for the Kembla Grange Classic G3 and the Inglis Bracelet, garnering prizemoney of more than $500,000.

Jennilala is a similar story: bought for $70,000 and now a $600,000 earner with five wins including the Matron S. G3 & Auraria S. G3 and a Group 1 Oaks placing on her record.

These three mares join other valuable fillies sold by Arrowfield at Inglis Classic, including:
Group 1 winner Maid Of Heaven – purchased for $60,000; dam of yearlings sold up to $450,000
Listed winner Ygritte – a $135,000 yearling; re-sold for $800,000; dam of yearlings sold up to $600,000
Listed winner Untamed Diamond – a $30,000 buy; re-sold for $200,000; now the dam of Group-placed New Zealand 3YO Argo.
Group 3-placed winner Game Of Thorns – a $180,000 yearling; re-sold for $350,000.

A quartet of geldings from the 2021-24 Classic Sales, Group 3 winner Kibou and Listed winners Ganbare, Katsu & Namesake, have collectively returned 2.6 times their owners’ original investment, as well as 17 wins.

Viribright Racing’s $150,000 purchase Matcha Latte earns an honourable mention for his $1.1 million career, featuring victory in the 2025 Provincial-Midway Championships Final and six Group placings.

And city winners Impunity & Steel Blaze and Victoria Derby G1 fourth One Step Closer, all purchased for less than $75,000, are paying their way with total earnings to date of more than $500,000.

Add to this record the collective 2025 results of Arrowfield’s Group 1 sires Dundeel, Maurice, The Autumn Sun, Castelvecchio and legendary Champion Sire Snitzel: 41 stakeswinners, 10 Group 1 winners and around $90 million prizemoney. That makes the Stud’s 43 Inglis Classic 2026 yearlings in Riverside’s Big Barn and Barn B essential viewing for every serious buyer.

Arrowfield’s Bloodstock Manager Jon Freyer makes a short-list selection of 6 yearlings from the draft:

LOT 82: HITOTSU – INARI COLT
“Descended from Champion 2YO and Group 1 producer Miss Finland, he’s a strong, good-bodied, workmanlike colt.”

LOT 86: DUNDEEL – INTELLIGENTSIA FILLY
