Champion Zarkava is in foal to Redoute’s Choice

Unbeaten champion mare Zarkava has been confirmed in foal to Redoute’s Choice at Haras de Bonneval in France.

Bred and raced by HH The Aga Khan, Zarkava (Zamindar-Zarkasha by Kahyasi) won all seven of her starts at two and three, culminating in the 2008 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe G1, where she swept through the field from an unpromising position to score by two lengths. She was the first filly since Urban Sea in 1993 to win the Arc.

After that performance, the final run of Zarkava’s career, the Aga Khan said, “”My family has been breeding racehorses for five generations. Two generations in India and three in Europe, and I believe this moment is the apogee of that effort.””

Zarkava won four other Group 1 races, including the French Triple Crown for fillies, and was named the 2008 European Horse of the Year. She was the highest-rated filly or mare on the 2008 World Thoroughbred Rankings with a figure of 128.

Zarkava’s first four foals are a 3YO filly by Dalakhani named Zerkaza; a 2YO colt by Sea the Stars; a yearling colt by Galileo; and a colt foal by Dubawi born last month.
