Champion sire, sire of sires…and a broodmare sire too

He’s famous as a champion sire, and recognised as Australia’s most exciting sire of sires – now Redoute’s Choice is emerging as a broodmare sire too.

He added two new stakeswinners to the latter record over the holiday weekend: 3YO colt Chase the Rainbow at Moonee Valley on Friday evening and 2YO filly Hussousa at Randwick on Saturday.

A strapping grey by the Mr. Prospector-line sire Dash for Cash from Illusional, and prepared by Redoute’s Choice’s own trainer Rick Hore-Lacy, Chase The Rainbow produced a big finish from back in the field to win the MVRC Bill Stutt S. 1600m G2. That settled his trainer’s plans to start him in the MRC Caulfield Guineas G1 this Saturday 9 October, and the VRC Victoria Derby G1 on 30 October. Chase the Rainbow was bred by North Road Bloodstock, and has a winning half-sister Illusionary (by Hussonet) in the Arrowfield broodmare band.

As it happens, Hussousa, winner of the ATC Gimcrack S. 1000m LR for owner-breeder Patinack Farm, is also grey, and is also by a Mr. Prospector-line sire, this time Husson, by Redoute’s Choice’s former barn-mate Hussonet, transferred this season to Cornerstone Stud in South Australia.

Daughters of Redoute’s Choice have now produced five stakeswinners – the others being New Zealand Group 2 winner Ego (by E Dubai), Melbourne stakeswinner Raffles Pegasus (by Fusaichi Pegasus) and Queensland stakeswinner Shamillion (by Shamardal).

Before Redoute’s Choice could claim all of this particular limelight, Flying Spur delivered a timely reminder of his own stature as a leading broodmare sire with his 22nd stakeswinner in that role, the Torryburn Stud-bred 2YO colt Cambiaso (by More Than Ready from Flying Alpha). He was successful in Sunday’s VRC Maribyrnong Trial S. 1000m LR for trainer and part-owner Danny O’Brien, and fellow owners Surace Bloodstock and Star Witness Bloodstock.
