Celebrating the year of Russian Revolution

Exactly a century after the political upheaval that ended Tsarist rule in Russia, another kind of Russian revolt is shaking up Australian sprinting.

Snitzel’s 4YO son Russian Revolution, already a Group 1 winner last March, made a brilliant season return when he proved too classy in Saturday’s $200,000 MVRC Ian McEwen S. 1000m G2.

Russian Revolution began best, and was soon joined by Heatherly who took up the running and led the field into the straight until the colt hit top gear. He took control 100 metres out to score by 1.25 lengths  in 58.14 from Heatherly with Houtzen finishing well for third.

Russian Revolution’s earnings from his six-win, nine-start career has now garnered more than three times the $320,000 that Michael Wallace & China Horse Club gave for him at the 2015 Inglis Easter Sale, where he was offered by Vinery Stud.  He is trained by Peter & Paul Snowden for his breeder John Stuart Investments, China Horse Club, Newgate Farm, Matthew Sandblom, Mr D.W. Wallace and Sir Owen Glenn.

Paul Snowden noted, “He’s strengthened up really well which is a trait of the Snitzel stock and it has only been his pre-race manners which have let him down in the past…He’s got that nervous energy which we try and use positively.”

Russian Revolution’s early Spring campaign is all about gaining a slot in The Everest on 14 October at Randwick.

“We specifically targeted this race as a lead-up to the Moir Stakes in a couple of weeks’ time. A spot in the Everest is the ultimate aim and we thought if we brought him down here and showed him off it would help.

“If we got a place in The Everest the Moir will be a crucial lead-up so we’ll just see how things play out.”

Russian Revolution supplied the first leg of Snitzel’s 12th same-day stakes double, completed an hour after the McEwen Stakes by Menari’s victory in the ATC Run to the Rose G2 in Sydney.

Russian Revolution is Snitzel’s 8th individual stakeswinner in the first six weeks of 2017/18, and the third from his 2013 crop, after Arbeitsam (Hawkesbury JC Rowley Mile LR) and Lubiton (Wyong RC Mona Lisa S. LR).
