Buyers choose Redoute’s at Magic Millions

Arrowfield’s champion sire Redoute’s Choice supplied four of the 10 top-priced lots in today’s opening session of the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. They included the two session-toppers.

The day’s highest price of $450,000 was achieved first by the Redoute’s Choice colt from 2YO stakeswinner I Got Chills, offered by Strawberry Hill Stud and purchased by Gai Waterhouse & James Harron Bloodstock.

The second $450,000 colt, by Redoute’s Choice from the fine producer Miss Jakeo, was offered by Baramul Stud and passed in the ring, but subsequently bought by Kevin Maloney’s Segenhoe Stud which has enjoyed great success this season with Redoute’s Choice’s high-class daughter Sister Madly.

The same order of events applied to Baramul Stud sale of the Redoute’s Choice-Inaflury colt to Queensland businessman Paul McDonald for $300,000. That price was matched by the Hustle Bustle colt purchased from the Arrowfield draft by the Waterhouse/Harron combination.

The day’s top ten lots included Arrowfield’s Snitzel ‘s colt from North Flower, knocked down to the $215,000 bid of Gold Coast trainer Bruce Hill. Snitzel’s five lots on offer today all sold, at an average price of $139,000.

Arrowfield’s third six-figure sale of the day was completed by a $180,000 bid from leading Queensland trainer Liam Birchley for the Flying Spur-Hussta la Vista filly.

In a conservative and discerning marketplace, Arrowfield’s Session 1 average of $130,000 compared with the overall session average price of just under $119,000. The average price at Session 1 in 2011 was $127,172.

Other notable results today included Not A Single Doubt ‘s average of almost $97,000 for three lots, headed by the $140,000 paid by Star Thoroughbreds for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds’ Lago Lady filly. Star Thoroughbreds was the buyer of Not A Single Doubt’s classy Group-winning son Squamosa at the 2009 Magic Millions sale.

Selling continues tomorrow when Arrowfield will offer 5 lots by Charge Forward, Flying Spur & Starcraft. Click here to view the full Arrowfield Magic Millions draft.
