Business booms at Redoute’s Choice & Sons

Business is booming at the family firm of Redoute’s Choice and sons, which today added two Group 2 victories at Eagle Farm to its record.

Strapping 4YO mare Varenna Miss gave champion sire Redoute’s Choice his 76th stakeswinner – and 17th worldwide this season – with a handsome win in today’s $175,000 BRC QTC Cup 1300m G2.

It was a fine effort, given her wide draw which left the mare camped wide, a little worse than midfield, until the field rounded the turn, and jockey Dwayne Dunn asked her to accelerate. Varenna Miss responded in sparkling fashion, and sprinted clear to win by a length from 2009 Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready, with a half-length back to Zingaling (also from the 2006 crop of Redoute’s Choice).

Redoute’s Choice will stand the 2011 season at a fee of $137,500 inc. GST.

Bred by Twin Palms Stud from the G3-winning Bite the Bullet mare Mica’s Pride, Varenna Miss is trained by Tony Noonan for Glenn & Kerry Fraser and family, and has now won five of her nine starts, for prizemoney of just over $295,000. Next Saturday’s Stradbroke Handicap G1 or the Winter Stakes G1 on 25 June are both possible targets for Varenna Miss who has already shown Group 1 ability with a brave fourth in the MRC Oakleigh Plate G1.

Two races earlier, it was Redoute’s Choice’s son Snitzel in the spotlight, when 2YO gelding Hot Snitzel bolted home ahead of Playtime and the Paul Messara-trained Mahisara in the $250,000 BRC Sires’ Produce S. 1400m G2. It was his third win from eight starts for the group of owners under the banner of Chris & Michael Ward’s Triple Crown Sydnications, which purchased Hot Snitzel for $60,000 from the Bellerive Stud draft at the 2010 Melbourne Premier Sale and placed him with trainer Gerald Ryan.

The last foal of the Blushing Groom mare Flames of Paris, Hot Snitzel was bred by the Arrowfield Group and Jungle Pocket Pty Ltd. He will now head to the $500,000 T.J. Smith S. G1 next Saturday.

Hot Snitzel is one of four stakeswinners by Snitzel who comfortably holds second position (behind another Redoute’s Choice son, Stratum) on the Australian 2nd Season Sires’ list with more than $2 million prizemoney. Snitzel stands the 2011 season at a fee of $27,500 inc. GST.
