Brand new Redoute’s Choice fillies score on debut
With 20 worldwide stakeswinners on the board this season, Redoute’s Choice can start planning for next season’s black type campaign. Today’s pair of impressive 2YO debut winners in Melbourne & Sydney look more than capable of opening his attack in the spring.
At Moonee Valley over 1000 metres, the Teeley Assets home-bred filly Brand New Choice settled willingly on the fence behind the early leaders, began to progress round the turn, then peeled out only to find herself in tight quarters between Magnaro and Mystical Miss. Showing plenty of grit, Brand New Choice kicked home best of the trio to win by a length.
She is a full-sister to stakeswinner Come Hither, from the Group 2-placed Hanky Panky (by Anabaa), a half-sister to Not A Single Doubt, from the famous Easy Date family of Group 1 winners Forensics, Zizou and Snippets.
The filly is also a three-quarter sister to leading young sire Not A Single Doubt, whose Teeley Assets-owned, Group 1-winning daughter Miracles of Life was reared alongside her at Bellerive Sud. The two fillies left Bellerive in the same month, February 2012, with Miracles of Life going to Dan Clarken in South Australia, and Brand New Choice going to David Hayes in Victoria.
The Hayes stable representative Lizzie Jelfs said after today’s win, “We’ve had a nice opinion of her coming into this, although she’s taken time to mature. We’ll probably pop her back out to the paddock now and look towards the spring.”
Gerry Harvey has enjoyed fine success this season with Redoute’s Choice as owner-breeder of AJC Oaks G1 winner Royal Descent, Group 3 winner Sheer Talent and Group-placed Chateau Margaux & Rose Pattern. He is also the breeder of stakeswinner Cantonese.
That success continued today when trainer Chris Waller lined up Royal Descent’s 2YO sister Chateau Lafaite on debut over 1250 metres at Canterbury.
The filly began well from barrier nine, but ended up three wide as her jockey Hugh Bowman worked to settle her. The pair ended up even wider on the turn, but Bowman waited until Chateau Lafaite was balanced up before urging her forward. The filly responded with alacrity and sprinted home to win comfortably by 1.75 lengths.
Chris Waller said, “I was not that confident at all especially after the barrier draw came out. We thought we would see how she jumped, if she jumped well then we would roll forward, otherwise we would just go back and educate her.
“Class takes you a long way. Fortunately for the Harvey team it looks like we’ve got another good one. She will go out now and get ready for some spring races”.
Chateau Lafaite and Royal Descent are from Mulan Princess (by Kaapstad), a multiple stakes-winning half-sister to the gifted sprinter Falkirk, a 4-time Group winner and 4th in Takeover Target’s 2006 Royal Ascot King’s Stand S. G2. All are members of an outstanding family nurtured over 30 years in New Zealand by the Burnet family and Windsor Park Stud, and now receiving first-class opportunities in Australia.
Gerry Harvey added to his collection of mares from the family when Westbury Stud, the New Zealand arm of his breeding business, purchased 6YO mare Luscillas Choice (by Redoute’s Choice from Lovenvain’s stakes-winning daughter Luscilla) for $50,000 at last week’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
Champion sire Redoute’s Choice will stand the 2013 Australian season at a fee of $137,500 inc. GST
