Beadman hits fresh marks for Snitzel

Snitzel’s 2YO son Beadman lived up to the high ambition of his name with a breath-taking, 8.3-length victory in Saturday’s $200,000 Ken Russell Memorial Classic G3, cutting out the 1200 metres in a slick 1:10.63 on the Heavy8 track at the Gold Coast.

A mere fortnight after Snitzel’s last new stakeswinner, the bright chestnut colt named for Hall of Fame jockey Darren Beadman brings up a fresh set of statistics. He is the Champion Sire’s:

  • Stakeswinner #19 this season – the 4th time Snitzel has reached that mark
Their 28 stakes wins have been notched up at an average rate of one every 10 days since 1 August.
  • Career stakeswinner #159
  • 2YO stakeswinner #62

He’s also Arrowfield’s 25th graduate stakeswinner in 2024/25 – a total that includes Group 1 winners Lady Shenandoah and the colts Private Life & Switzerland, both now standing at Coolmore Stud.

Jockey James McDonald said, “He’s always promised a lot and he’s a beautiful type. So he’s definitely got a bright future. That was the definition of sustained speed.”

Beadman’s trainer Peter Snowden added, “The progression he’s made just this last month is pretty incredible.

“He’s clearly very talented, and he doesn’t know how good he is. He doesn’t overdo it in his trackwork, he’s a very laid-back customer. He did give me the feeling that we could come up here and win a decent race with him, but he’s certainly surprised me today with that performance.”

Beadman is nominated for both the $1 million BRC Sires’ Produce S. G2 on 31 May and the $1 million J.J. Atkins G1 two weeks later.

A $900,000 purchase by China Horse Club, Newgate and a high-profile group of partners from Arrowfield’s Magic Millions 2024 draft, Beadman was bred by Arrowfield in partnership with Hermitage Thoroughbreds. He is the third winner left by the very fast French-bred racemare Iffranesia (by Iffraaj) whose 9 wins included a Listed Race at Chantilly.

Iffranesia foaled a full brother to Beadman in 2024 and is now in foal to Dundeel.

And Snitzel? He now has a 5th Australian 2YO Sires’ title firmly in his sights.
