Bank on an Arrowfield graduate!
For the second time in three weeks a pair of 3YO Arrowfield graduates have quinella-ed a stakes race in Melbourne.
Maurice’s 12th stakeswinner Bank Maur and Real Impact’s son Suizuro led the field home in the $750,000 MVRC Alister Clark S. 2040m G2.
On 25 February Arrowfield graduates Recommendation (by Shalaa) and Wee Nessy (by Snitzel) ran 1-2 in the Zeditave S. G3 at Sandown.
Arrowfield’s Class of 2021 has so far produced 8 stakeswinners in 2022/23.
In Japan we trust as the son of Maurice holds off Suizuro & Japanese Emperor in the G2 Alister Clark 👏

Bank Maur’s jockey Craig Newitt said, “He’s a lovely imposing sort of animal. Once I sat on him, he just gave me a beautiful feel. He’s big and robust but very relaxed.”
Bred by Arrowfield and Belford Productions, Bank Maur is the first foal out of Banksia (by Redoute’s Choice) a winning three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner & sire Foxwedge and Listed winner She’s A Fox. Redoute’s Choice, damsire of 138 stakeswinners, fills that role for 27 yearlings at Inglis Easter 2023, nine of them offered by Arrowfield.
He was bought for $130,000 by Cranbourne trainer Richard Laming from Inglis Premier draft of Milburn Creek Stud, as agent for Arrowfield. Nine starts into his career, with three wins on his record, Bank Maur’s earnings now exceed $700,000.
Bank Maur’s unraced 2YO brother Namesake is with the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace stable, and his yearling half-sister by Written Tycoon was a $120,000 buy for Stuart Kendrick from the Collingrove Stud draft at last week’s Magic Millions Adelaide Sale. Banksia is in foal to Champion Japanese 2YO and three-time Group 1 winner Admire Mars.
Suizuro (ex Sussuro by Pivotal) was a $60,000 purchase from Arrowfield’s Magic Millions draft by his trainers Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young. He is one of 9 Australian-bred stakes performers, headed by $2.6 million earner Count de Rupee, sired by Real Impact during his three seasons at Arrowfield.
Maurice did not shuttle to Australia in 2020, but he does have one Australian-bred yearling in his 2021 crop, to be offered by Arrowfield at Inglis Easter next month. That’s Lot 268 whose dam Niello (by Stay Gold) conceived on southern time and was sent to Australia in January 2021.
Maurice resumed shuttling in 2021 and has served over 300 mares at Arrowfield in the last two years. Also represented this season by Group 1 winner and Everest runner-up Mazu, Maurice is currently 10th on the Australian General Sires’ Premiership with $8.5 million prizemoney.
