Arrowfield’s Glowing day at Rosehill

Arrowfield enjoyed a notable day of Spring racing at Rosehill on Saturday, thanks to two fillies carrying the Stud’s famous silks, a graduate winner and a new stakeswinner for the Stud’s flagship stallion Snitzel.

Even better, these successes were shared with various partners and clients of the farm, and three stables, including the Arrowfield Training Centre.

3YO filly Autumn Glow, a $1.8 million Inglis Easter purchase from Silverdale Farm by Arrowfield & Hermitage Thoroughbreds, opened the batting and was most impressive, winning her 1300m debut in Benchmark 72 company by 2.5 lengths.

Autumn Glow’s trainer Chris Waller said, “She’s on her way to bigger and better things. Everything she’s done has been very special, including her first trial, she trialled the other day and we didn’t ask her to do anything and she won that trial.

“I’ll look at how she pulls up, respecting it is her first preparation, some horses can cope better or worse and some might take the next step. We’d love to be able to get her to the Flight Stakes if we can, but only if we can.”

Bred by Newhaven Park, Autumn Glow has a superb pedigree, as the daughter of two champions, The Autumn Sun and Champion South African Sprinter Via Africa, and three-quarter sister of the 2021 Golden Rose G1 winner In The Congo (by Snitzel).

Next up was Arrowfield graduate Gold Pattern (by Pariah) – she delivered her most valuable win to date for trainer John Thompson and syndicator Joe O’Neill’s Prime Thoroughbreds which paid $70,000 for her at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Gold Pattern’s dam Golden Statue, a sibling of Group 1-winning sprinter Hay List & dual Group winner Miss Siska, is now owned by Cavallo Park and has a 2YO filly by Castelvecchio named Golden Castel.

Arrowfield’s Black & Yellow Diamonds featured again in Race 3, the TAB Highway, won by the Paul Messara & Leah Gavranich-trained 4YO mare Intervarsity (Mikki Isle-Varsity Blues) whose turn of foot looks capable of taking her to stakes level.

Bred & raced in partnership with Alan Jones & John Leaver, Intervarsity also has a sibling by Castelvecchio – in her case a 3YO filly named Elizabass in the Gavin Bedggood stable at Cranbourne.

Three races later, Snitzel’s 3YO son Gatsby’s capped Arrowfield’s day with his victory in the $200,000 The Rosebud 1100m LR for Aramco Racing and the Waller stable. He is the 146th individual stakeswinner for Snitzel who has posted at least one August stakeswinner in every season bar one since 2014.
