For the second consecutive year, Arrowfield Stud has topped the Australian Black Type Vendors Premiership with 348 points, ahead of Segenhoe Stud (306 points), Widden Stud (275 points), Vinery Stud (168 points), Sledmere Stud (145 points), Newgate Farm (130 points), Coolmore Stud (129 points) & Newhaven Park (128 points).
The Premiership table compiled by Breeding & Racing allocates points on a sliding scale for Australian black type wins & placings by horses offered for sale as yearlings. Arrowfield’s 2024/25 record comprises 56 performances from 1000m to 2500m by 35 sale graduates including 3YO Group 1 winners, all trained by Chris Waller: LADY SHENANDOAH (Flight & Surround Stakes, Coolmore Classic), SWITZERLAND (Coolmore Stud Stakes) & PRIVATE LIFE (Caulfield Guineas).
Lady Shenandoah remains in training while Private Life & Switzerland have joined Coolmore’s stallion roster. They are among 23 commercially active Arrowfield graduate stallions at stud this season in Australia, New Zealand & South Africa, a group that includes high-profile Group 1 sires Castelvecchio, The Autumn Sun, Alabama Express, Super Seth & leading South African sire Rafeef.
Next on the list are 8 Group 2 victories, by 3YOs SNITZANOVA (Sandown Guineas), LAZZURA (Phar Lap Stakes), LADY SHENANDOAH (Light Fingers Stakes) & SWITZERLAND (Roman Consul Stakes), 4YOs ESTRIELLA (Millennium Sprint), LADY IN PINK (Tristarc Stakes) & MAKARENA (Golden Pendant) and 6YO BARAQIEL (McEwen Stakes).
Estriella & Makarena also proved to be spectacularly successful investments for their owners, returning, after they were both sold at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale, more than $7 million on an initial combined outlay of $1 million.
Arrowfield graduates’ season record also includes 9 Group 3 wins by 2YOs BEADMAN (Ken Russell Memorial Classic), SKYHOOK (Pago Pago Stakes) & BLITZBURG (Canonbury Stakes); 3YOs BITTERCREEK (Red Anchor Stakes), LADY SHENANDOAH (Ming Dynasty Quality), SHANGRI LA SPRING (Frank Packer Plate), SNITZANOVA (Newcastle Spring Stakes) & VERONA ROSE (Kembla Grange Classic); and 5YO JENNILALA (Matron Stakes).
The Stud’s 2024/25 sale graduate stakeswinners record is completed by Listed Stakes winners COMANCHE MISS, MATUSALEM & PRIVATE LEGACY.
The list grows to a total of 25 with the addition of home-bred mare ISTHMUS (Begonia Belle S. G3), farm graduates BELLE DETELLE (Adrian Knox S. G3; bred by Nick Bishara & Matt Duffie) & RECOMMENDATION (The Heath 1100 G3; foaled & raised for breeder Pacific King); and offshore Listed winners CAP FERRAT (Hong Kong Dery & ), LITTLE BLACK DRESS (in New Zealand) & INVINCIBLE PAPA (in Japan).
The sale origins of the 22 stakeswinners sold as yearlings are split between Inglis (10) and Magic Millions (12). Arrowfield’s Inglis Easter graduates also include millionaires KNOW THYSELF (The Coast & the Country Championships Final) & OSTRAKA (Silver Eagle).
And just as Arrowfield’s list includes stakeswinners by other farm’s stallions (Estriella & Isthmus by I Am Invincible; Private Life & Skyhook by Written Tycoon; Belle Detelle by Zed), it’s pleasing to see Arrowfield stallions represented on other vendors’ records. For example:
DEEL HER IN & JASMIN ROUGE (both by Dundeel) & TRANSATLANTIC (by Snitzel) – sold by Segenhoe Stud
LITZDEEL (by Dundeel) – Widden Stud
FEMMINILE (by Dundeel) & GATSBY’S (by Snitzel) – Vinery Stud
AUTUMN GLOW (by The Autumn Sun) – Newhaven Park
DOUBLE MARKET (by Castelvecchio) – Bhima Thoroughbreds
PROST (by Snitzel) – Baramul Stud
AELIANA (by Castelvecchio) – Rich Hill Stud
EL CASTELLO (by Castelvecchio) – Cambridge Stud
Arrowfield retains the #1 spot on the All Seasons Vendors table with 1359 points earned since 1 August 2020. Our own records show that across those 5 seasons, 74 individual Arrowfield home-bred, farm & sale graduates won 110 Group & Listed Races in Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, South Africa & Japan, including 10 winners of 16 Group 1 races.
Here’s to raising the bar ever higher in 2025/26!
