Arrowfield sweeps the 2YO Majors
King’s Legacy’s ebullient Champagne S. G1 victory on the final day of the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival completes Arrowfield’s 2020 sweep of Australia’s major 2YO races, with only the JJ Atkins G1 still to be decided, at Eagle Farm on 6 June:
2020 WINNER | MAJOR 2YO RACE |
KING’S LEGACY (by Redoute’s Choice) | ATC Champagne S. 1600m G1 |
KING’S LEGACY (by Redoute’s Choice) | ATC Inglis Sires S. 1400m G1 |
FARNAN (by Not A Single Doubt) | ATC Golden Slipper S. 1200m G1 |
TAGALOA (by Lord Kanaloa) – co-bred & sold by Arrowfield | MRC Blue Diamond S. 1200m G1 |
AWAY GAME (by Snitzel) | Magic Millions 2YO Classic 1200m RL |
Add Castelvecchio’s 2019 Champagne Stakes victory (in race record time of 1:33.31) and 2019 Magic Millions winner Exhilarates, and Arrowfield stallions & yearling drafts have supplied the winners of 7 of the past 11 Australian Juvenile Majors.
Arrowfield-sired 2YOs also won four of these six major races in 2004, 2005 & 2006. In 2011 the Darley-bred & -sired Sepoy, Helmet & Benfica claimed all but the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, won by Not A Single Doubt’s daughter Karuta Queen.

Like Farnan, Tagaloa, Away Game & Exhilarates, King’s Legacy is a Magic Millions graduate, purchased by James Harron for $1.4 million from the draft of his breeder Segenhoe Stud.
And like Arrowfield’s young sire Pariah and four other Group winners, he is bred on the Redoute’s Choice-Hussonet cross.
The Champagne Stakes is the 14th Group 1 win for the father-and-son training partnership of Peter & Paul Snowden, who are already looking forward to King’s Legacy’s 3YO season, as Peter explains.
“He’s a nice colt and will only get better at three, he’s doing it all on raw ability. He’s got the right attitude, a good turn of foot and he relaxes really well. They are big assets to have and he’s a quality colt, we’ll see a lot more of him later on.”
King’s Legacy is one of ten 2YO Group 1 winners (7 colts, 3 fillies) by Redoute’s Choice and his second Champagne Stakes winner, after Samantha Miss in 2008. The great sire’s record has included all six major Australian juvenile races since The Autumn Sun’s victory in the 2018 JJ Atkins S. G1.
