Arrowfield graduate is Snitzel’s 30th stakeswinner

Ygritte delivered a perfectly timed reminder for Easter Sale buyers when she proved too strong in Thursday’s $150,000 Gosford Guineas 1200m LR.

The 3YO filly, trained by Gerald Ryan for owner Carl Holt, is the 30th career stakeswinner by Snitzel, who is fifth on the current Australian General Sires’ list with $5.2 million prizemoney. His nine Australian stakeswinners this season include two new Group 1 winners Wandjina and Sweet Idea, both bred and sold by Arrowfield.

In fact, that pair and Ygritte are among 15 stakeswinners by Snitzel sold by Arrowfield. Ygritte was purchased by Kitchwin Hills for $135,000 from Arrowfield’s draft at the 2013 Inglis Classic Sale.

Although the Gosford Guineas is only Ygritte’s second win, her 11-start record includes five Group 3 placings behind top-class talent such as Hallowed Crown, Mossfun and Eloping.  She will tackle Group 3 company again at her likely next start, in the ATC J.H.B. Carr Stakes on 18 April.

Ygritte is one of several quality fillies in her immediate family. Her year-older sibling My Sister Lil is a stakeswinner in Perth, and their dam Deputy Lil (by French Deputy) is a half-sister to Group 1-placed stakeswinner Estee. Ygritte’s second dam is the three-time Group 1 winner and New Zealand Horse of the Year Tycoon Lil.

Sadly, Deputy Lil died in 2013 after leaving a third filly to Not A Single Doubt in 2012. That filly, named My Girl Lil, was bought by Sunshine Coast trainer Stuart Kendrick for $70,000 from last year’s Inglis Classic Sale.

However, Arrowfield and Katsumi Yoshida continue to breed from Tycoon Lil’s daughter Empress Lily who has a Redoute’s Choice filly in the Stud’s consignment for next week’s Easter Sale.

Arrowfield’s 2015 Easter draft also includes two fillies and four colts among Snitzel’s 42-lot representation at the Sale.
