Alverta runs in the July Cup G1 tonight

Australian Group One-winning mare Alverta ( Flying Spur -Grilse by Rahy) has her second European start tonight in the Newmarket July Cup G1. The race will be televised live on Sky Racing World at 12.10 am, Saturday 10 July (AEST).

Alverta has improved physically since her 40kg weight loss before running in the Golden Jubilee Stakes G1 at Royal Ascot on 19 June. She will have to be in her very best form to compete against a field of world-class sprinters, including nine of the first 11 horses home in the Golden Jubilee.

Alverta has drawn barrier 14 with the speed advantageously drawn directly inside her: Kinsale King (barrier 13), Fleeting Spirit (12), Starspangledbanner (11) and Equiano (10). Her trainer Paul Messara says, “Alverta has a good turn of foot if there is good speed in her races.”

Her appearance at Newmarket follows that of Elzaam, the two-year-old son of Redoute’s Choice who finished third in yesterday’s July S. G2. He was also a most impressive runner-up to Strong Suit in the Royal Ascot Coventry S. G2 on 15 June.
