All-Snitzel 2YO trifecta in Group 1 Sires’ at Randwick

All-Snitzel 2YO trifecta in Group 1 Sires’ at Randwick

Arrowfield graduate Invader led home an all-Snitzel trifecta in Saturday’s $1 million ATC Inglis Sires’ 1400m G1 on a spectacular first day of The Championships at Royal Randwick.

New Zealand visitor Summer Passage and Trapeze Artist were gallant placegetters, after racing close to the pace and fighting on staunchly to finish 0.8 and 1.6 lengths behind Invader, who punched out a big final sprint in the space that Hugh Bowman’s wizardry found for him.

Snitzel’s appetite for making history is clearly undiminished. The Sires’ 1-2-3 is the first trifecta achieved in an Australian Group 1 juvenile race by progeny of one sire in the past three decades, and Invader is Snitzel’s third Group 1 winner in a remarkable 17 days, after Summer Passage (ARC Ellerslie Sires’ Produce S. G1, 16 March) and Russian Revolution (ATC The Galaxy G1, 18 March).

Invader is the sixth foal of the stakes-winning mare Flame of Sydney (by Encosta de Lago) and was sold for $475,000 by Arrowfield at the 2016 Magic Millions Sale. He is trained by Peter & Paul Snowden for buyer China Horse Club which races him with Newgate, Aquis Farm, Horse Ventures and Winstar Farm.

Flame of Sydney, also dam of the fine Hong Kong sprinter Not Listenin’tome, was sold for $605,000 to Yu Long Investments at the 2015 Inglis Sydney Broodmare Sale. She has since delivered her new owners a filly and a colt by Snitzel.

Invader’s breeder Michael Pitt said, “There’s a lot of excitement here, it’s a sensational result and a performance very much like his mother’s best run.”

The Sires’ wasn’t the only success on the Championship card for the son of Redoute’s Choice. His 3YO daughter Diddums became the 12th Snitzel stakeswinner prepared by Snitzel’s own trainer, Gerald Ryan when she shot clear in the straight to win the $200,000 ATC P.J. Bell S. 1200m G3.

Prompt Response (by Beneteau) and Smart Amelia (by Smart Missile) completed a trifecta for Arrowfield stallions.

A home-bred for Torryburn Stud, Diddums is the fourth foal of Raheights (by Rahy) and is one Sydney’s most consistent 3YO fillies this season, winning or placing in all but one of her seven starts.

Gerald Ryan said, “She is a filly who has kept improving. She is as honest as they come…It’s good when a plan comes off. Good for Torryburn Stud and John.

“It’s good for her as a filly who has basically come from nowhere to win a stakes race. I’m rapt for her because she is by Snitzel.”

Snitzel now has 58 stakeswinners, nine of them successful at Group 1 level, and has extended his lead on the 2016/17 Australian General Sires’ premiership with 115 winners, 21 stakeswinners and $11.5 million prizemoney.

Snitzel’s 40-strong consignment is set to make the final Inglis Easter Sale at Newmarket Stables very memorable indeed.
