A magical hour for 3 Arrowfield graduates
On a premier day of first-class Australian racing, Arrowfield stallions Snitzel, Dundeel & Castelvecchio all stepped up with new stakeswinners and were quickly followed into the big race winner’s circle by a trio of graduates, all bred by Arrowfield & all purchased from the Stud’s Yearling Class of 2022.
First up was Kevin & Vikki Payne’s high-powered sprinter Estriella (I Am Invincible-Madrigals by Lonhro) who defied her topweight of 59kg to lead all the way in the $300,000 Caulfield Sprint 1000m G2 and defeat the favourite Rey Magnerio, carrying 53kg, by the tip of her very determined nose. Bred by Arrowfield & GSA Bloodstock, she was one of three major winners on the day for champion trainer Ciaron Maher, who also prepares Duke De Sessa (Caulfield Cup G1) and Bella Nipotina (The Everest G1).

In the next race at Caulfield, Lady In Pink (Pariah-Iron Lace by Encosta de Lago) capitalised on a sweet run inside the leader Revolutionary Miss to claim her first black type victory in the $300,000 Tristarc S. 1400m G2 for the Corstens & Larkin stable and a large group of owners including Rupert & Cheryl Legh.
Twenty minutes later Ostraka (Pariah-Madame Andree by War Emblem) & jockey Blake Shinn made the most of the 4YO gelding’s superior speed out of gate 14 to take control of the $1 million Silver Eagle and 1300 metres later he was still in front, a half-length clear of Xidaki and War Machine. Already a Listed winner for the Neasham & Archibald stable, Ostraka is the first million-dollar earner for Pariah who now stands at Oaklands Stud in Queensland.
A single hour at Caulfield & Randwick, 3 Arrowfield Sale graduates, 3 big race wins
Inglis Classic graduate Lady In Pink and Estriella & Ostraka (both offered at Inglis Easter) were purchased for a total of $1,060,000 and have earned a collective $2.8 million from their combined 15 wins & 10 placings.
Madrigals, a full sister to champion Pierro and also dam of Group-placed filly Love Poem, has a yearling colt by The Autumn Sun and an early positive test to I Am Invincible. Arrowfield also has a yearling colt by Maurice from Estriella’s half-sister Polyphonic (by Deep Impact).
Iron Lace was sold in 2022 to Greg & Ainslee Daffey’s Claremont Thoroughbreds in Victoria, and her 2YO colt by Castelvecchio is in New Zealand.
Madame Andree, also the dam of Group winner & sire Anders (by Not A Single Doubt) and stakes performers Satin Love & Battleground (both by Snitzel), foaled a Snitzel filly last month and returns to the 4-time Champion Sire. Her 2YO Snitzel daughter was a $400,000 buy for Ottavio & Wendy Galletta at Inglis Easter.
Arrowfield is also breeding from Madame Andree’s daughters by Redoute’s Choice, Madame Pauline & Nancy Grace. They have young progeny by Dundeel, Maurice, Written Tycoon & Shalaa, and are both visiting Maurice this Spring.
On one of Australia’s biggest and most competitive racedays it takes serious firepower for a single farm and its stallions to produce almost a third of the winners in Melbourne and Sydney. On Saturday, that’s exactly what Arrowfield did.
