80th stakeswinner for Flying Spur
Flying Spur made it four stakeswinners in nine days when his 5YO daughter Das Machen (ex Lili Marlene by Kaaptive Edition) scooted home in today’s SAJC Matrice S. LR at Morphettville.
As the mare took her record to seven wins and more than $240,000 from 17 starts, she became the 80th individual stakeswinner for her champion sire.
Bred by Parsons Creek Thoroughbreds, Das Machen was sold twice through Magic Millions sales: firstly as a weanling for $53,000, and then at the 2007 Perth Yearling Sale where Mark Hoare of Melbourne-based syndicators Pacific Bloodstock paid $60,000 for her. She is raced by G. Macmillan, P. Bourke, M. Derham, C. Owen, A. Dick, M. Goulopoulos, J. Mounsey, T. Hosking & Mrs N. Willmott.
Sent to the Mick Price stable, Das Machen won three of her first four starts as a 3YO and added three consecutive wins in Melbourne last winter. She showed her readiness for today’s assignment with her first black type placing, a third behind Beaded and Varenna Miss in the MRC Hyderabad Race Club S. G3, on 12 February.
Flying Spur has been represented this season by six Australian stakeswinners, and three of them were successful last Friday and Saturday. Leading Golden Slipper contender Satin Shoes won the ATC Silver Slipper S. G2, Miss Gai Flyer added the MVRC Typhoon Tracy S. LR to her MRC Kevin Hayes S. LR win of 12 February and Montana Flyer won her second ATC Millie Fox H. G3. 5YO mare Vintedge and 3YO gelding Hoegaarden claimed their first stakes wins last spring.
Australia’s champion sire of 2007, Flying Spur has 31 yearlings catalogued for the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, six of them in the Arrowfield draft.
