7 stakeswinners in 33 days for Snitzel
Snitzel has raced to seven stakeswinners in the first 33 days of the season about as fast as his son Redzel sped to victory in Saturday’s $150,000 ATC Concorde S. 1000m G3.
Redzel took early control of the race, set a strong pace through the middle stages, then opened up in the final 300 metres to score by 2 lengths from Spieth in 56.23.

Co-trainer Paul Snowden said, “This horse has come back in fine fettle. I have been quoted as saying early in the prep that this is his best preparation yet, the way he can idle when he gets to a cruising speed. We have all seen how he can sustain that over six furlongs.
“It has been all about an Everest preparation, today just started that. We will space his runs to get a result as we have done in the last two preparations. It is four weeks to the Moir and no doubt he is going to be mighty hard to beat there and hopefully we pick up a (Everest) slot very soon.”
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy, who rode five winners on the card, said, “It is funny, when I looked at his form, you think he has been around for ages, but he’s actually only five years old. He is a lovely horse and great to be on him today.”
Redzel was a $120,000 purchase for Chris & Michael Ward’s Triple Crown Syndications from the Marquee Stud draft at the 2014 Magic Millions sale. Bred by Lee Fleming, he is the last foal of the Rubiton mare Millrich, herself winner of the STC Sweet Embrace S. G3 and also dam of Group winner Danerich.
Six of Redzel’s eight wins have been in black type company, including last season’s Doomben 10,000 G1 and his career prizemoney approaches $1.3 million.
Redzel’s success came a day after Snitzel’s 4YO daughter Lubiton proved too strong for her stablemate Imposing Lass & Hetty Heights in the $125,000 Wyong RC Mona Lisa S. 1350m LR.

Lubiton was bred by Bell View Park Stud & Foote Street Investments from the Zabeel mare Rosa Stellata, and offered by Newgate Farm at the 2015 Inglis Easter Sale, where she was bought for $250,000 by Sam Kavanagh.
Now the winner of four races and almost $230,000, she is trained by Bjorn Baker for Steve and Louise Gillard, who also raced Snitzel’s Group 3-winning daughter Oakleigh Girl.
Lubiton is Snitzel’s 68th lifetime stakeswinner and, with Redzel, has joined 3YOs Menari, Dracarys, Jukebox, 4YO Arbeitsam and 5YO Sweet Redemption to give the champion sire an exceptionally fast start to the 2017/18 season.
Just over a month into the new season, Snitzel once again heads the General Sires’ table by winners, wins, stakeswinners and earnings of just over $1.5 million.
