56th Stakeswinner for Redoute’s Choice
A return to a firm track was the trigger for 4yo entire Zupacool to open his stakes account with a record-breaking win in Wednesday’s $150,000 Listed Bendigo Cup (2200m).
Trained at Seymour by John Symons and Sheila Laxon, Zupacool was hampered by heavy tracks over winter and early spring.
“We have had a bit of a rough trot recently with just a run of bad luck,” Symons said. “We were trying to get this horse to the Cups but he just doesn’t like wet tracks.
“Everywhere we wanted to take him, it rained and we didn’t get him qualified which is another bit of bad luck but there’s a good race in him.”
Symons said Zupacool would be aimed at the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2500m) on Emirates Stakes day.
It was the fifth win from 15 starts for the son of Redoute’s Choice taking his earnings to $215,798.
Only four of the 59 yearlings by Redoute’s Choice sold at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale made less than the $200,000 it took for Symons to make the winning bid on Zupacool.
Consigned by Tony Santic’s Makybe, Zupacool is the third foal of the stakes-placed Grosvenor mare Be Cool (NZ).
Be Cool is a daughter of the Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Shagolvin (Sharavari) a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Bit Of A Skite and to the dam of AJC Oaks heroine Circles Of Gold (herself the dam of champions Elvstroem and Haradasun) and to the granddam of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success.
Zupacool becomes the 56th stakes-winner for Redoute’s Choice and his 12th from his fifth crop that also included the champion Samantha Miss, 2-time Group 1 winner Gallica and the recent Toorak Handicap G1 heroine Allez Wonder.
