$270,000 for Dundeel colt at Karaka
The first of seven Dundeel yearlings at New Zealand’s Karaka Sale went through the ring during the opening session on Sunday evening and attracted lively bidding before being knocked down for $NZ270,000 to Singapore owner Jeremy Soh.
The strongly made, easy-walking colt is out of Cassata (by Viking Ruler), a half-sister to Group winners Viennetta, Butterscotch and Golden Archer, from the family of Group 1 winners Headturner and O’Marilyn.
He is from the first draft presented under the Koru Thoroughbreds banner of breeders Julie & Kevin Taylor, their son Matthew and his partner Melissa Speers, and is the top-priced yearling sold by the Taylors in New Zealand.
Dundeel posted his first winner, Cutadeel at Tauranga, NZ on 19 January, and his daughter Sunreel was second at Scone two days later.
The champion son of High Chaparral averaged around seven times his fee in Book 1 of the recent Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, and achieved a top price of $280,000 for the colt out of Opportunity. He was bought from the Arrowfield draft by Duncan Ramage & Chris Anderson Racing.
The next chance to buy Dundeel’s progeny in Australia will be at the Inglis Classic Sale where he has 13 yearlings on offer, among them three fillies and two colts in Arrowfield’s consignment.
