Snitzel & Not A Single Doubt colts top Weanling Session

Snitzel and Not A Single Doubt shared top billing on Day 1 of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, with a pair of $300,000 colts knocked down to two of the best judges in the business.
James Bester struck first, securing Lot 53, Cornerstone Stud’s strongly built Not A Single Doubt colt out of Celebrity Appeal (by One Cool Cat), from the family of Group 1 winners Hauraki & Kidnapped. The price is a new weanling record for Not A Single Doubt, exceeding the $280,000 paid for the Wilde Irish Song colt at the same Sale three years ago.
New Zealand-based agent Paul Willetts then paid $300,000 for Aquis Farm’s Lot 145, the dark brown son of Snitzel out of stakes-winning mare Euryale (by Lonhro), a grand-daughter of Group 1 winner Danglissa.
Aquis Farm was also the vendor of Lot 44, the $280,000 Not A Single Doubt colt out of Cariad (by Sequalo), so a full brother to this season’s 2YO city winner Cardiff. He was bought by Ampulla Farm.
In all, Not A Single Doubt’s four Day 1 lots averaged $240,000.
Dundeel also had four weanlings sold in the opening session, averaging $103,750 with a top price of $165,000 paid for the colt out of Ice Cream Lady (by Not A Single Doubt). Offered by Yarraman Park Stud, he was purchased by New Zealanders Marc and Sarah Devcich, whose beautiful Waikato property was home to Dundeel between his spectacular racing Australian campaigns.
International superstar Maurice and Champion 2YO Shalaa made a positive mark with their first Magic Millions weanlings. Edinglassie Stud’s Shalaa-Backless colt, descended from New Zealand Oaks winner Brown Satin, made $75,000 and was purchased by Platinum Breeding & Racing with Pinhook Bloodstock.
Ampulla Lodge went to $130,000 to buy Lot 185, the Maurice half-brother to Caulfield Cup G1 winner Southern Speed offered by the NSW-based Kansas Plains Stud.
Thirteen lots by Arrowfield stallions sold for an average of $148,577, well above the Sale’s first day average of $59,926, which was slightly down on the Day 1 figure in 2018.
The Sale continues at the Gold Coast on Thursday 23 May with Lots 266 to 530, including 19 Arrowfield-sired weanlings.
