Cheers to Snitzel’s 88th stakeswinner
Snitzel’s 88th stakeswinner arrived in rather familiar form when 2YO filly Cheer Leader raced away for an ebullient five-length victory in the MVRC Valley Pearl 1200m LR at her third start on Friday evening.
Her racing style is reminiscent of another brilliant daughter of Snitzel who also made a big impression as a 2YO when she won by 4.5 lengths at Mornington seven years ago.
The resemblance is encouraging because that filly, Arrowfield graduate Snitzerland, went on to become a Group 3 winner and Golden Slipper runner-up at two, a multiple Group winner at three and VRC Lightning S. G1 winner at four.
Cheer Leader may get her first chance at Group level in the ATC Percy Sykes S. G2 on 13 April.
Bred by Makybe Breeding & Racing, and offered by Milburn Creek at the 2018 Inglis Easter Sale, Cheer Leader was bought for $300,000 by Yu Long Investments and sent to the Snowden stable.

There’s plenty to like about her distaff pedigree too. She’s a half-sister to Group 1 winner Amicus out of Gold Chant (by El Moxie), a half-sister to Champion Sprinter Starspangledbanner.
Cheer Leader’s grand-dam Gold Anthem has a Not A Single Doubt colt in the Lime Country draft for Inglis Easter 2019.
Cheer Leader is Snitzel’s 36th juvenile winner and 4th this season, after Bella Rosa (VRC Ottawa S. G3), Magic Million winner Exhilarates and New Zealand filly Bavella.
Just as importantly, the three Australian fillies have contributed a handy $1.6 million to Snitzel’s quest for a third consecutive stallion premiership. After Golden Slipper day he maintains a commanding lead in that contest, with earnings of $19.5 million.
Snitzel has 36 yearlings on offer at next month’s Inglis Easter Sale, including a superb collection of 8 fillies and two colts in Arrowfield’s draft.
