Brendan & Jo Lindsay’s home-bred Snitzel filly Bavella could not have been more impressive winning the $50,000 Counties Challenge S. 1100m LR at Pukekohe, New Zealand on Saturday.

Lining up a month after her strong debut win at Ellerslie, Bavella raced away to score by 3.75 lengths from Alaalune and Blackrocksdetox.

Bavella is the second foal and an early breeding success for the Melbourne Group 3-winning mare Zonza (by Zabeel). She’s descended from the Princequillo mare Neriad whose descendants include international Group 1 winners Miesque, her son Kingmambo & daughter East of the Moon, Karakontie, Rumplestiltskin & her daughter Tapestry, Real Steel, Lucayan, Good Ba Ba,  and, in 2018, Alpha Centauri & Study Of Man.

The filly is the 34th juvenile stakeswinner for Snitzel, already a two-time Champion Sire of 2YOs, and his 86th lifetime stakeswinner. Another filly from his 2016 crop, Bella Rosa, took out the VRC Ottawa S. G3 at Flemington on Cup Day earlier this month.

Once again heading the Australian General Sires’ Premiership, Snitzel has 46 lots catalogued for the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, including 3 colts and two fillies in Arrowfield’s draft.
