No Cooling of this Passion at Sandown

Cool Passion’s third Group 3 victory, in Saturday’s $150,000 MRC Kevin Heffernan S. 1300m G3  is the latest prize in a sterling career that began almost three years ago with a debut second at Bunbury, splitting a couple of useful horses that stayed in Western Australia and have won eight races between them.

Bigger things awaited the daughter of Not A Single Doubt and Hiavanna and she quickly made it clear she was ready for them with eight wins from her next 14 starts, all but one in Perth for her owner-breeders Michael & Jill MacDermott.

At the end of her 5YO season, a private sale to John & Anne McDonnell – of Sebring & Fiorente fame – was negotiated with agent & pedigree analyst Jane Henning, who also joined the mare’s ownership.

Cool Passion has rewarded her new owners with her three best wins, very much increased value as a broodmare and $404,000 prizemoney. It’s adds up to a tremendous result for a mare conceived in the last of Not A Single Doubt’s six seasons at a fee of $12,500 +GST.

Cool Passion has earned her summer break in the paddock and, all going well, will return next year for a campaign aimed at the SAJC Robert Sangster S. G1 in May.

Tony McEvoy says, “She’s lightly raced and she’s got more to come. She loves her role and she’s a big, strong mare.”

Not A Single Doubt has now sent out six winners aged from 2 to 7, of eight Group & Listed Races from 1000m to 2000m this Spring, consolidating his position among Australia’s leading sires after the first third of 2018/19.  The brilliantly versatile son of Redoute’s Choice has 30 lots catalogued for the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, among them 5 fillies and a colt in the Arrowfield consignment.
