Arrowfield celebrates inaugural Snitzel Sprint

Arrowfield celebrated the inaugural $100,000 Snitzel Sprint with the delighted owners and trainer of the wonderfully competitive Isorich who has now returned more than $500,000 on his $7,000 Inglis Scone purchase price.

The buyer was owner-trainer Wayne Seelin who prepares the 7YO gelding with minimum fuss at Wyong and races him with his father and their good friend Paul Watson.

Driven hard out of gate six by 3-kilogram claiming apprentice Lee Magorrian, Isorich rolled along easily behind Tango Rain with the favourite I Thought So third, then began applying pressure at the 300-metre mark. All three horses were in for the fight, but Isorich’s weight advantage and determination prevailed in a time of 1:08.63 on the Good3 track.

Often under-rated by punters on city racing, Isorich paid a juicy $21 for the win, a result warmly greeted by several members of Team Arrowfield who selected him for a group bet on the race!

Bred by Colin Flynn, Isorich is by Choisir from seven-time winner A Little Naughty (by Rustic Amber), from the family of Group 1 winner Danni Martine.

Arrowfield also sponsored the $150,000 Breeders’ Plate 1000m LR, always fascinating as the first Sydney 2YO race for colts and geldings, and a handy guide to the season’s juvenile talent.

First run in 1906, the Breeders’ Plate has an illustrious list of winners including Hall of Famers Heroic, Sky High, Luskin Star and Choisir and more recently, Snitzel, Charge Forward, Smart Missile, Sebring, Pierro, Vancouver & Capitalist.

The Snitzel colt Bondi (ex Bondi Blonde by Red Ransom) very nearly matched the sponsorship with an Arrowfield-sired victory, but had to settle for second behind the fast-finishing Performer.

Bondi’s jockey Blake Shinn said, “It was a great run, nearly as a good as a win. He did everything right, he ran as well as he could, the winner was just a bit better.’’
