Dundeel weanling makes $130,000

A weanling colt by Dundeel was knocked down for $130,000 to noted pin-hookers Mark & Shelley Treweek of Lyndhurst Farm in the Platinum Weanling Session of the Inglis Great Southern Sale held in Melbourne earlier this week.

Offered by his breeder Two Bays Farm, the colt is the second foal of the Fastnet Rock mare Whitesails, a winner of six races from the family of Group 2 winner Mount Olympus and Singapore stakeswinner Light Of Success.

Dundeel’s first nine weanlings sold at the Magic Millions National (where the six-time Group 1 winner was Leading First Season Sire), Inglis Australian & Great Southern Sales have averaged almost $122,000. That’s a healthy return on his $27,500 inc. GST fee which is unchanged for 2016.

The six colts among them have all made six figures, up to his top price of $240,000, paid by Musk Creek Farm for Riversdale’s Cerberus Gal colt at Magic Millions.

Across-the-board demand for fillies has been softer this year, which opens up good opportunities for buyers with an eye on Australia’s excellent racing programs for fillies & mares and the buoyant broodmare market. Dundeel’s top-priced $90,000 filly out of Valda Merceda, a relative of Group 1 performers Bawalaksana, Damaschino and Shaaheq, was sold by Holbrook Thoroughbreds to Inglis as agent at the Australian Weanling Sale.
