Sydney 2YO quinellas for Arrowfield sires

Gai Waterhouse, Darby Racing & Arrowfield sires were all the clues punters needed to nail two juvenile quinellas in Sydney over the weekend.

On Friday evening Snitzel’s daughter Vienna Waltz  took up an early lead over 1200 metres, kicked clear on the turn and stuck on gamely to hold out the resolute Hussterical (by Beneteau), with Volpino third.

A $140,000 Waterhouse & Julian Blaxland purchase from the Edinglassie draft at last year’s Inglis Easter Sale, Vienna Waltz, from Marju’s 2YO Group winner Burning Sands, is Snitzel’s fifth 2YO winner this season.

Hussterical, a full sister to stakeswinner Lady Jivago, was bought by Darby Racing for $90,000 from Arrowfield’s consignment at the the 2015 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale. From the second and final crop of Beneteau, she is out of the winning Hussonet mare Hussterics, a member of the celebrated Easy Date family of Snippets, Forensics, Rewaaya, Sharnee Rose & Not A Single Doubt.

Less than 18 hours later at Randwick, Scarlet Rain (by Manhattan Rain) sealed a Golden Slipper campaign with an easy victory over 1000 metres. Her superior gate speed allowed her to cross the field from barrier 8 to take up a lead she extended in the straight, while Twist Tops (by Beneteau) boxed on well for second, with the fast-finishing Prized Icon third.

It was Scarlet Rain’s second win following her successful debut for the Waterhouse/Darby Racing combination at Rosehill on 2 January. She is Manhattan Rain’s second winner, after Speeding Comet (also from a Hussonet mare) in Perth, from only four juvenile runners this season.

Scarlet Rain is the first foal of the 2YO city winner Double Ranga (by Exceed and Excel) and, like Hussterical, is an Arrowfield graduate. Darby Racing paid $100,000 for her at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Earlier this month on the Gold Coast Robert Roulston paid $110,000 for the Starcraft-Double Ranga colt, while the Snitzel-Hussterics colt comes up next month in Arrowfield’s draft for the Inglis Classic Sale.
