Beneteau adds two new winners

A pair of juveniles on opposite sides of the country have taken Beneteau’s first season total of winners to a round dozen, one behind table leader Rothesay, with three racedays left before the season ends.

Last Wednesday Bob & Sandra Peters’ gelding Universal Law won his debut at Belmont in Perth with a brilliant late finish, scoring by a half-length from Detente, who finished a length in front of Sporting Image.

A son of the city-winning Scenic mare Simply Wicked, Universal Law is a half-brother to the Peters’ sensational filly Delicacy, who made history this season as the winner of the Derby & Oaks races in Adelaide and Perth. (In fact, the siblings are little more closely related, because Delicacy is by Al Maher who, like Beneteau’s sire Redoute’s Choice, is by Danehill from a daughter of Dancing Show.)

Beneteau’s next winner came at Pakenham’s synthetic track in Victoria on Tuesday when the delightfully named Geoff overcame his evident inexperience to win on debut by two lengths from Poet’s Choice, with bigger margins back to the favourite Rothstein and fourth-placed Palaios, the half-brother to champion So You Think.

Geoff was a $10,000 purchase by his trainer Robbie Griffiths from the Three Bridges draft at the 2014 Inglis Classic Summer Sale. He’s the fourth winner from the stakes-placed juvenile Granma Gertey (by Danzero), a half-sister to Group winner De Lago Mist, from the family of Wanted and Shrapnel.
