One sale, three sires, 12 stakeswinners

And the leading sires by stakeswinners offered at the 2013 Inglis Easter Sale are…

Well, can you guess? You’ll probably say Redoute’s Choice and Fastnet Rock, and you’d be correct. But many may be surprised that the other stallion with 4 stakeswinners is Arrowfield’s Manhattan Rain, who is something of a quiet achiever.

Manhattan Rain, from an Easter 2013 offering of only 20 yearlings, has so far come up with:

  • Group 2 winner Moonovermanhattan ($100,000; bought by Dermot Farrington; trained by Mick Price)
  • Highly promising stayer Manapine, a Listed winner over 2500 metres at Flemington this Autumn ($200,000; Badger’s Bloodstock/Nigel Blackiston)
  • Crafty, a Listed winner at 2 and Group-placed at three ($150,000; David Redvers/Robert Smerdon)
  • Ondina, winner of the SAJC Laelia S. LR (passed in at $70,000; subsequently bought by Star Thoroughbreds at the Magic Millions National Sale & trained by Gai Waterhouse).

Crafty has retired to stud in Europe where she has been mated with Frankel, but Moonovermanhattan, Manapine and Ondina all stay in training. Magic Millions graduate Wild Rain has a fine chance of joining them as Manhattan Rain’s fifth stakeswinner in Saturday’s SAJC Lightning S. LR.

From an Easter 2013 offering of 32 lots Redoute’s Choice is the sire of Group 1 winners Hampton Court (purchased for $500,000 by John Warren) and Majmu ($300,000; Shadwell Australia), as well as the Group-winning colts Panzer Division & Scissor Kick, both bought by Paul Messara for $150,000 & $200,000 respectively.

From 47 lots offered Fastnet Rock has four stakes-winning graduates: Group 1 winner Magicool  ($250,000; Mark Kavanagh), plus Group winners Zululand ($1.5 million; Tom Magnier), Petrology ($200,000; Lindsay Park Bloodstock) and Lumosty ($185,000; Flemington Bloodstock).

Next on the list behind this trio is More Than Ready, sire of Group winner Nayeli and Listed winner Banaadeer from the Inglis Easter Sale two years ago.

Its graduates are about to turn four, so the Sale’s record can be expected to increase, but with 24 2YO & 3YO stakeswinners, including five Group 1 winners, it’s already looking like a vintage cohort.
