Snitzel & Not A Single Doubt in 2YO title fight

A few weeks ago Snitzel had a comfortable lead on the Australian 2YO Sires’ list by winners but now, with 15 days of the 2014/15 season left, I Am Invincible and Snitzel’s barnmate Not A Single Doubt are making a race of it.

On Wednesday at Warwick Farm Not A Single Doubt posted his 18th juvenile winner of the season when the filly Tremezzina converted her excellent trial form into a strong 1.5 length debut win over 1300 metres. It was also Not A Single Doubt’s 25th progeny win in the past 30 days.

Before the race Tremezzina’s trainer Chris Waller described her as a “special filly”, but he won’t be rushing her into stakes company.

He said, “It doesn’t matter how good their trial form is they have to back it up on raceday under pressure, and she did that.

“This is a confidence time of year for most horses. We would have to find the right race for her instead of throwing her in the deep end.”

Tremezzina’s jockey Tye Angland said, “She was impressive. I didn’t really ask her for much but once she got to the front she switched off and floated a bit…she’s still got a lot to learn but at the moment she is doing a lot of things right for such a young horse.”

Tremezzina is a half-sister to Perth stakeswinner Testamezzo, from the stakes-placed city winner Tremezzo (by Encosta De Lago), and was purchased by Star Thoroughbreds for $190,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale from the draft of Amarina Farm.

Other Star Thoroughbreds horses by Arrowfield sires that have won this season are Listed stakeswinner Ondina (by Manhattan Rain) and the All American pair Avonaco & Eisenhower.

Not A Single Doubt’s tally of 2YO winners this season includes 11 city winners headed by Group 3 winner The Grey Flash and stakes-placed fillies Claudia Jean, Single Gaze & Payroll.

With Snitzel on 21 (including stakeswinners Fireworks, Big Tree & Odyssey Moon), I Am Invincible on 20 and Not A Single Doubt on 18, the title of Australia’s most prolific sire of 2YO winners can’t yet be claimed with confidence. Watch this space!
