New Group 1 winner for Redoute's Choice & Arrowfield

Sheikh Hamdan’s spectacular filly Majmu became the 27th Group 1 winner by champion sire Redoute’s Choice when she romped to a 2.5 length victory in Saturday’s R1 million Cape Fillies Guineas G1 at Kenilworth in South Africa.

Majmu is the fourth Group 1 winner by Redoute’s Choice this season, after Hampton Court, Lankan Rupee (MVRC Manikato S.) and Bonaria (VRC Myer Classic).  Her success is the 40th Group 1 win on the champion sire’s stud record.

Majmu is also the fourth Group 1 winner by Redoute’s Choice to be bred and sold by Arrowfield, after Fashions Afield, Miss Finland and Master of Design, and she extends Arrowfield’s record of Group 1-winning farm graduates to forty-six.

Her trainer Mike de Kock was quick to confirm his assessment of the filly’s class.

“I thought she won in facile fashion. The J & B Met here at the end of next month is definitely in our thinking.

“It might be her last race in South Africa. We will definitely export her because I think she is well capable of winning a Group 1 overseas.”

Bred by Arrowfield from the Chilean Group 1 winner Spontaneous (by Hussonet), Majmu was purchased for $300,000 by Shadwell Australia from Arrowfield’s draft at the 2013 Inglis Easter Sale. Her progress from stakes-winning juvenile debutante to 3YO Group 1 winner has been relentless: she has now won five of her 6 starts, all in Group & Listed stakes company, and was named South Africa’s Champion 2YO Filly last season.

Sadly, Spontaneous produced only one more foal before her death in September 2013. That foal, a stunning colt by Not A Single Doubt, was knocked down to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for $380,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Majmu is the third of Redoute’s Choice’s progeny to succeed at Group 1 level in South Africa after Musir (2009 Greyville Golden Horseshoe S.)  and Wylie Hall (2013 South African Derby).

She is the second Group 1 winner, and the fourth Group winner from the 2011 crop by the three-time champion sire, following Hampton Court (ATC Spring Champion S. G1), Scissor Kick (ATC Up and Coming S. G3) and Panzer Division (ATC Ming Dynasty H. G3).

Majmu is the ninth Group 1 winner from a mare by former Arrowfield sire Hussonet, now standing at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia.

Twenty yearlings by Redoute’s Choice are catalogued for the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. They include five fillies to be offered by Arrowfield, two of them like Majmu, out of Hussonet mares, Flavoured and Line Honours.
