Quick start by Not A Single Doubt's juveniles
Last season’s leading Australian sire of 2YO winners Not A Single Doubt has been characteristically quick out of the gates again in 2014/15 with two early juvenile winners in Adelaide and Perth, both of them Magic Millions graduates.
The Neville Parnham-trained colt Fremond claimed the season’s first 2YO race in Perth on Saturday with a brilliant off-the-canvas effort after jumping slowly from barrier five in the 1000-metre dash.
Parnham bought Fremond for $55,000 from the Magic Millions Perth consignment of breeder Mogumber Park, the relatively new farm owned by Colin Brown & Fiona Lacey at Bullsbrook north of Perth. The colt has already earned more than his purchase price, thanks to the WestSpeed bonus of $27,500 on top of his $38,400 winner’s prizemoney.
Fremond is the fourth winner left by Fiddly (by Red Ransom), from the immediate family of Group 2-winning fillies Piper Star, Melora & Shinakima.
At Morphettville on 4 October Prime Thoroughbreds’ filly Atalanta Miss (ex Our Greta by Rory’s Jester) finished over the top of her opposition after jumping from the outside barrier over 1000 metres. Described on the website of her trainer Patrick Payne as “not big but has strength and an excellent temperament”, Atalanta Miss will have her next start in the $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat on 2 November.
Bred by Brenton & Elizabeth Parker, Atalanta Miss was consigned by Mill Park Stud at the Magic Millions Adelaide Sale where she was purchased for $55,000 by Prime Thoroughbreds’ Joe O’Neill.
A grand-daughter of New Zealand Group 1 winner Silky Oak, Atalanta Miss is a full sister to multiple Hong Kong winner Victorius, the pair being in-bred 3 x 2 to Rory’s Jester. The filly’s debut win earned prizemoney of $22,000 plus a $4000 SABOIS bonus.
Prime Thoroughbreds’ four winners this month also include Hijack Hussy (Hussonet-Joy Ride by Redoute’s Choice), a $62,000 buy from Arrowfield at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. The Tony Gollan-trained filly scored over 1400 metres in smart time at the Gold Coast on 4 October and is being aimed at the VRC Desirable S. LR on Melbourne Cup day.
