Snitzel colt on target for the Blue Sapphire

Caulfield trainer Luke Oliver has had a big opinion of Snitzel’s son Zeletto for some time.

It’s an opinion beginning to be more widely shared after the 3YO colt’s dashing second win at Sandown on Wednesday.

Zeletto attracted attention with his 5-length debut victory at Werribee in June, defeating subsequent Flemington winner and stakes performer Zebulon (by All American).

Three weeks later Zeletto split talented filly Royal Snitzel and Berlutti (by Not A Single Doubt) at Caulfield. That form has been franked by Royal Snitzel’s runner-up finish in last month’s MRC Quezette S. G3 and Berlutti’s strong second win, at Sandown last week.

Oliver said after Wednesday’s win, “It feels like he’s the best horse I’ve trained. From day one he’s been so professional and everything he does, he does easily and just keeps stepping up.”

All going well, Zeletto will contest a 1000-metre race later this month before the $250,000 Blue Sapphire on 15 October. Last year’s Blue Sapphire was won by Snitzel’s brilliant daughter Snitzerland.

Zeletto was bred by Harry Mitchell of Yarraman Park Stud, from the Anabaa mare Zimaretto, already the dam of juvenile stakeswinner Cruden Bay (by Not A Single Doubt). Zimaretto is due to foal again to Not A Single Doubt later this month.
