All American's family quinella at Canterbury

It was a family affair in the 3YO colts & geldings maiden at Canterbury on Wednesday, impressively won by All American’s half-brother This is Australia from his fast-finishing son Avonaco.

Bred and raced by John Singleton, This is Australia is the fifth winner from the US-bred Milva (Strawberry Road-Tersa), and her first colt since All American, winner of the 2009 VRC Emirates S. G1. This is Australia, by More Than Ready, is a full brother to Group 2-winning filly More Strawberries.

Avonaco, from the Group 2-winning juvenile Freestyle (by Snippets), was bred and sold by Arrowfield at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, where Star Thoroughbreds bought him for $130,000. Avonaco is trained by Chris Waller.

Star Thoroughbreds enjoyed success last Saturday with another Arrowfield-sired 3YO debutant, Confederate (Charge Forward-Expect To Win by Encosta de Lago), produced by Gai Waterhouse to win at Hawkesbury.

All American was among Australia’s leading first-crop sires last season, with 7 winners including Sydney Group 3 winner Bachman and Flemington winner Zebulon, both aiming at Group 1 targets this Spring.

All American’s daughter Lady Trickster, who also won last season, lines up on Saturday in a competitive 3YO fillies event at Moonee Valley alongside London Lolly (Charge Forward), Golconda (Snitzel) and Not A Happy Camper (Not A Single Doubt).
