Record price for Manhattan Rain weanling

The quality support received by first season sire Manhattan Rain was highlighted by a new record price of $130,000 at Sunday’s Select Session of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale .

That was paid by New Zealand buyer RMB Trust for the colt from Charming Estelle, a full sister to champion sprinter Lankan Rupee.

Charming Estelle herself, once again in foal to Manhattan Rain, will be sold on Wednesday as part of the much anticipated Teeley Dispersal of broodmares. In all twenty-two of those mares are in foal to Manhattan Rain.

Two other Manhattan Rain weanlings attracted bids of $72,500. Magic Millions as agent signed for the filly from Weekend Gossip (by Hussonet) a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Mentality and already dam of 2YO Group winner I’m All The Talk.  New Zealand agent Paul Willetts bought the filly from juvenile stakeswinner Beauty School (by Royal Academy).

Teeley Assets bred and raced Manhattan Rain to Group 1 2YO success, and has supported him with more than 70 bookings in his first four years at stud.

Arrowfield Stud’s Jon Freyer says, “It’s a great boost for any young stallion to attract even one or two Teeley mares, but Mr Yaseen has given Manhattan Rain outstanding support which means there is a large number of exceptionally well-bred young horses and unborn foals by him in the system.”

Manhattan Rain has made a fine start to his stud career, with the Mick Price-trained debut Group 3 winner Moonovermanhattan and stakes-placed Chengdu & Light Up Manhattan among his first 2YO runners this season.

Manhattan Rain stands at a 2014 fee of $16,500 inc. GST.
