Doubt rises to 2YO stakes win at Flemington

Brilliant young sire Not A Single Doubt posted his 18th individual stakeswinner when Risen From Doubt bolted home in Australia’s first juvenile stakes race of the season, the VRC Maribyrnong Trial S. 1000m LR.

The compact bay colt started favourite on the strength of two Adelaide trial wins and did not let punters down, winning by 2.5 lengths in 57.78 seconds, with Jabali and Boomwaa in the placings.

In the same hour, another Not A Single Doubt 2YO, the filly Totally Sure, was second in Brisbane, beaten a nose.

Risen From Doubt was bred by Dean Fleming from the unraced mare Coconut Mamma (by Fantastic Light), making him a member of the Denise’s Joy tribe of Group 1 winners Tuesday Joy, Sunday Joy and More Joyous. He is also in-bred 3 x 4 to Danehill.

Coconut Mamma has a 4YO daughter Miss St Tropez (by Magnus), part-owned by Arrowfield and in training with Paul Messara, and a yearling sister to Risen From Doubt.

Hancock Quality Bloodstock bought Risen From Doubt for $140,000 from the Tyreel Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. The colt is raced by a group of owners including Adelaide builder Peter Katelanis.

Risen From Doubt’s trainer Tony McEvoy told Racenet’s Brad Waters after the race, “He goes straight to the paddock on Monday and then we’ll give him a chance to be back here [in Melbourne] for the Blue Diamond.”

“These early races, they are won by horses that really want it and my experience with Colin Hayes and David and Peter is that you can’t push them.

“They will tell you if they want it and this horse has been right at the front of the field the whole way through and he really impressed me today.

“That’s the best he has gone and it’s lovely. He just relaxed in behind them but I was a bit concerned there because of the traffic but Nick got him through and he was really impressive.”

Risen From Doubt is the eighth 2YO stakeswinner by Not A Single Doubt, whose daughter Miracles of Life won last season’s Blue Diamond S. G1.
