Bright futures for brilliant Bendigo winners

Brilliant wins at Bendigo on Sunday promise bright futures for an Arrowfield Easter Sale graduate and a daughter of Redoute’s Choice.

3YO gelding Not Listenin’tome (Dylan Thomas-Flame of Sydney by Encosta de Lago) cruised to a 5.5 length on debut over 1100 metres for the Hawkes training team and owner Gary Moore, indicating that his future racing is likely to be in Hong Kong.

Bred by Michael Pitt, Not Listenin’tome was purchased for $270,000 from the Arrowfield draft at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Sale. His dam Flame of Sydney is a Melbourne stakeswinner from the family of Group winners What Can I Say, Only Words and Wry Hero. She has subsequently produced fillies by Starcraft and Redoute’s Choice, and foals again this spring to Redoute’s Choice.

Three races later 4YO mare Maraatib (Redoute’s Choice-Valadon by Woodman) was equally impressive in her maiden success over 1600 metres.

The win comes after 10 placings, including a second in Zydeco’s VRC Wakeful S. G2, as well as a fourth-place finish in Dear Demi’s VRC Oaks G1. Bred on the same cross as champion filly Miss Finland, Maraatib races in the famous blue and white colours of Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Stud, which bought her for $700,000 from her breeder Highgrove Stud’s 2011 Inglis Easter Sale consignment.

Her immediate family is packed with talented fillies. Valadon, also the dam of the stakes-placed winners Global Dream and Valoura, is a three-quarter sister to Group 2 winner Timbourina, and half-sister to Media, a dual Group winner in Sydney.
